The Missing Key
I carry with me a ring full of keys. One key unlocks 25 years of coaching and teaching experience at three different school systems in the United States: in the city, in the country, and in a small town. Another key unlocks fond memories of being a professional entertainer and traveling with a 22-piece band. The little key that unlocks the time spent working at a law firm has proven invaluable–time and time again. The sheer delight of learning is held within the grips of a golden key– a key that brings great joy, fascination, and wonder to ‘the journey’, making everyday another exciting day. And, then there is my most precious key; it unlocks the varied life experiences of a blessed woman who has raised two beautiful daughters presently residing in Asia: the youngest in Hangzhou, China and the oldest in Seoul, South Korea. And there are other keys. But, there is one key missing—and that key unlocks the mysteries of living in a foreign land.
These are my adventures of teaching, learning, and surviving in Taiwan, also known as Formosa, from the Portuguese: Ilha Formosa, which means … “The Beautiful Island.”
